This series is inspired by the song "Vincent" by Don McLean.
My youngest son played a song for me on guitar last year. I immediately recognized it from my childhood, but this time I listened more closely to the lyrics. And they really resonated with me. McLean sings about Vincent van Gogh and his struggles as an artist. It was relatable to me at the time. I was on the sick list myself, having had a hip replacement. I was also looking for something new in my artistic work, and that was causing me to feel a bit stuck. This song sparked an idea.
I created my own palette using the colors sung about in the song (like violet, amber, china blue) and started painting. This time, a series of different sizes. Not just different sizes, also different styles, but each one a true "Haggith." All painted with the same palette base. And all embroidered with gold metallic thread as a new addition.
I'll be showing everything for the first time at the Nock Nock Art Fair in March 2026.
