Hi, I'm Haggith
My story
Usually, I pick up my paintbrush and go for it! There’s no plan and I’m always curious where my intuition and creativity takes me. Just go with the flow, create, and paint something beautiful. However, from time to time my paintings have a certain theme. Inclusivity, diversity and climate change are important to me, and my painting reflects that. My work varies from abstract to figurative and is known for its deep and bright colors.
As a baby, I lived in the childhood home of, well known for his designs, artist Gerrit Rietveld in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Three years later (1973) my parents decided to move to Papua-New Guinea and so I grew up amongst exotic birds of paradise and colorful fauna.
A little tale about my childhood years: at the age of five, the teacher gave us children a painting assignment. Instead of putting my object in the middle of the canvas and deciding that that was it, I used every corner I had at my disposal. And color… Lots of color! As a dear memory of the start of my passion, this little painting is still in my art studio. Growing up in a country so full of magical colors, surely influenced my way of creating art.
Back in The Netherlands I took courses in photography, etching, mixed media and journaling. Everything else I do, is self-taught. I studied Art History at the University of Amsterdam, which helped me understand more about composition, colors and theories. Over the years I have exhibited in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Sweden and Italy.
Curious? Don’t be a stranger and meet me and my art in my art studio at Maakgemeenschap De Hoop in Zaandam. Hope to see you soon!
